My name is Mai Trang (or May in English). Currently I am 25 years old (2016). In the last few years I have been a travel guide for foreigners coming to Vietnam in different areas of the country and the process makes me confused in some way. It struck me because as a Vietnamese, I am not as curios about my own country as outsiders and at the same time, I cannot explain to them about some crucial points of the nation. Why do we use the language as we use nowadays? What are the dynamics that are driving the country? Why are we pro-Americans and anti-Chinese, and at what degree? Are the current generation (or known as millennials) Vietnamese or a hybrid product of globalization? What about the expats living in Vietnam and their struggles or confusion? What about the people outside Vietnam coming back, what do they bring to the discussion table?
This is a fascinating personal exploration which will lack depth due to the greed on variety, but definitely will add something to the answers you are looking for.
